Our films are made to stand the test of time. Each one is produced by professionals, to be watched and enjoyed for many years to come.

Our first step, after being you have chosen which one of our range of videos meets your needs, is to appoint a Director for your film.  The Director will ensure that the filming runs smoothly and will work with you to agree the location (usually your home), who will be speaking and what to wear.

Most importantly, though, the Director will help you to develop the contents of your story -  what you will say, and how you will say it. To make this easier, we will send you our ‘How To’ video, before your Director visits - this video sets out in advance the questions your Director will want to discuss with you, so you are able to plan ahead and consult other family members. We hope this is part of the fun of the project!  Getting your story right will take several hours to complete, but is key to an end result that will please you and your family.

Above all we want you to be relaxed and let your personality shine through. We do not work by using set scripts - instead, to help give the film a structure, you could use props, such as family photographs interspliced into the film, helping to illustrate your story. Another technique is to use an interview format, where you answer questions agreed in advance.

Once you and your Director have agreed your ‘scenario’, the next step is the shooting of your film. It can take up to three hours to make 45 minutes of creative film, using digital video cameras and professional quality lighting and sound recording systems.

Finally, your film is edited, calling on the considerable skill of our editors, to produce a polished and professional video. All of our cameramen and editors have a wealth of experience working in television and corporate films, working to demanding quality standards.

Family Story believes that making your film should be an important family event. It is worth spending time on. Above all, we will ensure that making the film is every bit as enjoyable as watching it.
